Genesis 4 vs 8 to Genesis 4 vs 24

Join Pastor Bob Thibodeau as he delves into the profound story of Cain and Abel in Genesis chapter 4, exploring themes of intentionality in offerings and the consequences of sin.

The episode highlights Cain's anger and eventual act of murder, which, intriguingly, was not yet against any established law, as God's commandments had not been given.

Pastor Bob emphasizes the importance of accountability, noting Cain's deflection of responsibility when confronted by God, showcasing the human tendency to evade truth.

The discussion further examines Cain's punishment and the mark placed upon him for protection, illustrating God's mercy even in judgment.

This reflective study encourages listeners to consider their own actions and relationships with God as they navigate their spiritual journeys.

From Genesis all the way through the book of the Revelation.

Narrator:

No preaching, just a simple Bible reading with examples and short explanations of the meaning behind the Scriptures.

Narrator:

Your 15 minute daily Bible walk is designed for those who are so busy it's hard for them to do a daily Bible study.

Narrator:

So Pastor Bob developed this program so you could study the Bible in just 15 minutes a day.

Narrator:

Now with today's scripture study, here's Pastor Bob Tibodo.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

Hello everyone, everywhere.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

Pastor Bob Thibodeau here.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

Welcome to your 15 Minute Bible Walk today for January 6th.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

I'm Pastor Bob Thibodeau and I'm so blessed that you're joining us today.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

Grab your Bibles.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

Let's open it up to the book of Genesis.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

We left off last time in Genesis chapter 4 at verse 7, where Cain and Abel just brought their offerings before God.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

And Cain got rebuked because he didn't put any intentional effort into it.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

Where Abel brought the, the, the tithe to God.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

And God just rebuked Cain in verse seven.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

And he said, you know, verse six says, why are you angry?

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

Why is your continence falling if you do well, if you do what's supposed to happen?

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

Won't you be accepted?

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

But if you don't, sin lies at the do.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

To you shall be his desire.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

In other words, he'll.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

He'll be able to have you at his will.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

And you will, but you shall rule over him if you do what you're supposed to do.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

And verse eight now for today, Genesis, chapter four, verse eight.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

And Cain talked with Abel his brother.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

I like that.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

Didn't say they argued with each other.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

He didn't go out to argue with them.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

He didn't go out to fight him.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

He talk with Abel, his brother.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

I believe Abel kind of rebuked them a little bit.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

He may have antagonized the situation.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

That Bible doesn't say.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

But what we see here, he says he talked with Abel his brother about the offerings.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

And then it says, and it came to pass when they were in the field that Cain rose up against Abel, his brother, and slew him.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

Now there's the first murder.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

But guess what?

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

It was not illegal.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

Their murder was not against the law.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

There was no punishment for that.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

There was no law broken.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

How could there be?

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

The law hadn't been given yet.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

So verse nine.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

And Yahweh said to Cain, where's Abel, your brother?

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

And Cain replied, I don't know.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

Am I, am I my brother's keeper?

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

Am I the one who's supposed to protect him?

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

Think about what just said.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

What he just said, Abel's the keeper, the protector of the sheep.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

He's like, he's protecting the sheep.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

Am I supposed to protect him?

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

That's what he's asking God.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

And he said, I don't know.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

That was a lie.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

So here God knows what Abel did, but now Abel has lied.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

Think back a couple of chapters.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

Garden of Eden.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

Again, serpent tricked Eve.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

She gave it to Adam.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

God comes down and says, you know, why are you hiding?

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

He said, because we're naked.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

Who told you you were naked?

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

Did you eat from that tree I told you not to eat from?

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

And Adam, instead of saying, yes, we're sorry we did, and then let God figure out how to deal with that.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

Instead he said, God, this woman you gave me made me eat it.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

She gave to me and I ate it.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

And then he asked Eve, why did you do that?

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

What have you done?

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

She blamed the devil.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

She blamed the snake, the serpent, because the serpent tricked me.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

Neither one of them said we were sorry.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

Neither one of them said, I didn't mean to do it.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

But they were lying.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

They tried to get around God.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

Cain's doing the same thing here.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

He said, I don't know where he is.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

That was a lie.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

He lied to God.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

There's the punishment.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

Said, what have you done?

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

The voice of your brother's blood is crying to me from the ground.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

When.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

And in the garden when the he had to slay.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

What we said was probably a lamb to give clothing to Adam and Eve, that lamb's blood was in the ground.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

Shed blood to cover the sin here.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

Every offering since then, same thing.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

Blood had to be shed.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

The lamb was crying out.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

God was recognizing this in his animal died for the sin of man.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

Here, his brother's blood is crying to God from the ground.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

Cain could have handled this different.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

Instead he tried lying to God and getting away with doing sin, as it isn't your brothers blood crying to me from the ground.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

Verse 11.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

Now.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

Now you are cursed from the earth.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

Not in the earth, from the earth.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

The earth is cursing you.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

The earth is cursing you.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

Because the earth has opened up her mouth to receive your brother's blood from your hand.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

When?

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

Now, that says semicolon.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

That means now it's going to be like this.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

So he says, now, when you till the ground, the Ground will not from this point forward yield to you from her strength.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

A fugitive and a vagabond you shall be in the earth.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

That's an interesting phrase, vagabond.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

What does vagabond mean?

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

I'll tell you what we'll do.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

Let's just look it up here.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

I want a definition of a vagabond.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

A person who wanders from place to place without a home or a job.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

There you go.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

Amen.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

Says you are going to be a vagabond in this earth.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

Where was I here?

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

And Cain said to the Lord, verse 13, my iniquity is greater than can be forgiven.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

That's the middle reference there in the scripture.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

It says, my punishment is greater than I can bear.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

He's telling God that, you know, you're not being fair to me here.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

You're not being fair to me, God.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

He said, you've driven me out.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

Verse 14.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

You have driven me out this day from the face of the earth.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

Now where are you gonna go?

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

Where is he gonna go?

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

Space?

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

To the moon, you know, how can you go from the face of the Earth?

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

What he's saying here is, you've driven me out from my area where I live.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

You're driving me out from my family.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

You're driving me out into the unknown.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

And from the your face I shall be hidden.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

You're driving away from me.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

You're driving me away from your presence, God.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

You're driving me away from you.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

What am I going to do without you?

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

He's recognizing this.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

He says, I'll be out there.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

I'll be a fugitive.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

I'll be a vagabond in the earth.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

I'll be wandering from place to place with no family, nobody to call my own.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

He says, everybody that finds me will slay me.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

Now, notice here, everyone.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

So, in other words, there's been some population taking place.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

Adam and Eve, Cain and Abel.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

There's been others.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

We don't have time to go into that.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

We will get to it eventually, at some point in time.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

But this, you know, the Bible is very specific and is very accurate.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

And we don't.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

I don't have time to go into archaeology.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

And, you know, the dinosaurs and the caveman.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

There were other creatures out there.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

We'll put it like that.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

There were other.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

You know, you can't argue science.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

Let's put it like that.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

It was there.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

This just wasn't four people here at this point in time.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

All right?

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

They were God's people.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

Those four were God's people.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

All right?

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

But long story short, he says that everyone who finds me will try to slay me.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

And Jehovah Yahweh said to him, therefore, whosoever would slay Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

And Jehovah set a mark upon Cain, lest any fighting him should kill him.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

In other words, he's going to have this mark of protection around him.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

All right, now that's important, and that's going to come back here in a little bit.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

Verse 16.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

Cain went out from the presence of the Lord.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

He was cast out from the presence of the Lord.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

He is cast away from his family and dwelt in the latter of Nod, east of Eden.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

Cain knew his wife.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

Now, that's the first time we hear about Cain having a wife.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

Where did his wife come from?

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

K knew his wife.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

She conceived and bore Enoch.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

Enoch built a city and called the name of the city after Or.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

And he bore Enoch.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

And Cain built a city and.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

And called the name of the city after the name of his son Enoch.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

Verse 18.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

To Enoch was born Irad.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

And Irad begot Mel.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

Mel begot Methusel, and Matusiel begot La Mac.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

Now, this is a different Lamech from chapter five.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

All right?

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

Just like, you know, I would have a son, call him Christopher, and Christopher would have a son named Jack.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

And Jack and have a son named Christopher.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

It'd be different.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

A son named Robert.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

Well, that's a Robert.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

Different Robert from me.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

Put it like that.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

Okay, so here we see that this is different.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

Different.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

Lamar, lamac from chapter five and still got time.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

Verse 19.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

Lamech, the first son, okay, Lamech took to him two wives.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

The name of the one was Ada.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

The name of the other, Zilla.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

Ada bore Jabal.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

He was the father of such as dwell in tents and those that have the cattle.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

And his brother's name was Jubal.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

So you have Jabal.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

And Jubal.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

He was the father of all, such as handle the harp and the organ.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

Zilla.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

Who's Zilla?

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

Where did you get Zilla from?

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

Two wives.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

Okay?

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

Ada and Zilla, verse 22.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

And Zilla, she also bore Tubal Cane, an instructor of every article, artificer in brass and iron.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

And the sister of Tubal.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

Cain was Neymar.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

And Lamak said to his wives, Ada and Zilla.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

Now remember who Lamak is, okay?

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

Lamak was Enoch born Erad.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

Arabic.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

Mahil.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

Mahilio.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

Be out.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

Methusel and Methuselah begot Lamak.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

So Lamak here is what the great grandson of Enoch.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

I'm sorry of Cain, he says, and listen.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

Lamar said to his wives Ada and Zilla, hear my voice, you wives of Lamar, listen to my speech.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

For I have slain a man to my wounding and a young man to my hurt or in my hurt.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

In other words, he got into an argument, he got into a fight, and during the course of this fight, he killed this young man because the young man had wounded him.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

He was trying to kill him.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

He was defending himself and killed the man.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

He said if Cain should be avenged sevenfold.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

Because the, the sentence which God had given Cain was obviously passed down through his generations.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

So they understood there was a, a mark on Cain that nobody would touch him.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

Other God would render the punishment sevenfold.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

Whoever did.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

He said if Cain should be avenged sevenfold for what he did when he murdered Abel.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

Right.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

When Cain murdered Abel, God said, you're cast out of here, but if anybody kills you, I'll pay back sevenfold on that.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

He said, if Cain would be offended sevenfold, truly, someone who hurts me would be seventy sevenfold.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

In other words, it'd be multiple times over because I didn't do it on purpose.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

It was an accident.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

We call it today manslaughter.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

Okay, you didn't really intend to do it.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

It happened, but it didn't.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

You know, it could even be self defense.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

He said, if, if somebody wants to vent, get vengeance on me.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

God will take care of them.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

77 fold of the curse on that.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

Okay, and that's where we're going to leave it at today in verse 24, folks.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:

About the Podcast

15 Minute Daily Bible Walk
Verse by Verse Through The Bible
This has been a project I have been contemplating for a long time.

Join me in walking through the Bible on our personal Bible study - one verse at at time. There is no "preaching" here. Just simple scripture reading with brief explanations and examples of what the scripture mean.

I was inspired to do this project based upon the program "Through The Bible" with Dr. Jay Veron McGee (who is passed on to be with the Lord for several years now). When I first started to study the Bible, his radio program helped me immensely. It took Dr. McGee 5 years to do a complete Bible Study.

I do not know how long it will take us. But you can start listening at anytime. My goal is to create a new episode each and every day (365 days per year).

Of course, "sometimes" life will get in the way (for many reasons). But I will pick it right back up where we left off (and try to catch up the days that were missed - to help keep us on track).

As I continue to add more episodes, you can join us at the most recent program or start at the beginning. Each episode is labeled as to the scriptures we are going to discuss.

I am so blessed you are here and I pray you will get a huge blessing as we join together in a "15 Minute Daily Bible Walk!" Amen!

About your host

Profile picture for Robert Thibodeau

Robert Thibodeau

I am a 12 year Army veteran as both enlisted and as a commissioned Cavalry Officer.
I am now a retired law enforcement supervisor...

I had my own business for seven years before I entered law enforcement.

As a cop, I was injured on the job on May 12, 2007 and after several surgeries over a couple of years, forced to retire in 2011.

As I was looking down the road to “what am I going to do next?” I started what is now known as a podcast (I had no clue at the time).

Within six months of starting (what I called) “My online radio program” I was offered an opportunity to be on nationwide AM radio. I learned A LOT in one year of doing that!

I then started the online Christian radio platform "Evangelism Radio" in the fall of 2010. It has had listeners in 160+ nations and all 50 states. We host 50+ Christian broadcasters on a weekly basis. We have been operating 24/7 for almost 14 years now. We have been rated #1 in the world by Shoutcast. com on several occasions in our genre. We recently transferred ownership of Evangelism Radio to another ministry so I could concentrate full time on podcasting, preaching and writing.

In 2018, I started the Kingdom Cross Roads Podcast to conduct interviews with Christian influencers from all walks of life and to play their interviews on the radio station. (The KCR Podcast has its own time slot on Evangelism Radio)!
We now have over 1600 episodes and almost 1100 interviews (in just over 6 years).

Looking out at the future of online Christian media, I noticed there was no viable platforms that catered only to the Christian podcast market.

In 2023, we launched a networking platform called, "FaithCasters" which connects "Great Christian podcasters with Great Christian Guests!" This helps to promote the work you do through podcast interviews! Check it out at https://FaithCaster.org

We recently launched "FaithCaster Academy" which serves as a training hub for ALL of our trainings (podcast training / speaker training / interview training, etc.). Members receive access to ALL of our training programs for one low, monthly membership fee. Members also receive FREE access to ALL of the LIVE trainings I conduct (1 or 2 per month) - while non-members have to pay to access the live trainings.

Between my podcast training program, conducting podcast interviews, appearing on other podcasts as guests, speaking at conferences (in person and virtually) and the podcast networking platform, I guess you could say “I’m all in” when it comes to podcasting and online media!

My total focus is to do all we can to assist you to “Get The Word Out” about your mission, services, products, ministry, books, business, etc.
