Pastor Bob highlights the importance of circumcision as a physical sign of this everlasting covenant, illustrating how it serves as a constant reminder of the relationship between God and His people.

Hello everyone everywhere.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:Pastor Bob Thibodeau here.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:Welcome to your 15 minute daily Bible walk for today.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:We're so blessed you're joining us as today.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:We're continuing now in our study of Genesis chapter 17.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:We left off last time with verse number eight, where God came down, renewed his covenant with Abram, inserted himself into the middle of Abram's name, making his name Abraham.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:So every time somebody called Abraham, they were saying God's name too, making sure that they, everyone understood the covenant relationship between Abram and God.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:Hallelujah.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:And he came down and reintroduced us.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:I remember 13 years went by since Ishmael was born, which coincides with the bar mitzvah and the age of maturity in Israel or Jewish traditions and stuff, that at 13, the boy is considered a man.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:Up till that time, he had to rely on dad.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:Now he can rely on himself, right?
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:He's got dad could help.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:But in society's eyes, he's now able to take care of himself.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:And that's when God showed back up.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:He'd been waiting.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:God had stopped talking to Abram, gave him the silent treatment.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:Praise God.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:And verse one, he says, when Abram was 99 years old, the Lord appeared to him again and said, I am El Shaddai.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:I'm your provider, Abram.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:But your name's no longer going to be Abram, is now going to be Abraham.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:Right?
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:So we left off in verse 8, verse 9, Genesis 17, verse 9.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:And God said to Abraham, you shall keep my covenant.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:Therefore you and your seed, your descendants after you, in their generations.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:This is my covenant which you shall keep.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:It's between me and you and your seed.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:Your descendants after you, your seed after you in their generations.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:This is my covenant.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:Every man child among you, every male child shall be circumcised.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:You shall circumcise the flesh of your foreskin.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:It shall be a token, a sign of the covenant between me and you.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:And he that's eight days old.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:A son of eight days shall be circumcised among you.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:Every man child in your generations.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:He that's born in the house bought with money from a stranger which is not of your seed.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:Every male child need he that's born a house.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:These bought with money must need be circumcised.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:And my covenant.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:See that colon means so that.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:So that my covenant shall be in your flesh.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:My covenant will be in your flesh.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:You don't have to remember doing the sacrifices out here.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:It'll be in your flesh.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:In other words, every time you go Wash.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:Every time you go to the bathroom, you're gonna see the sign of the covenant.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:Now, that may be a little blatant for some of you tenderhearted folks out there, but I'm just telling you the way it is.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:And.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:And it's a sign between God and you is what.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:This is an everlasting covenant.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:Because those that are circumcised, those that are not circumcised, you're out in the town, walking around, you don't know who's who or who what.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:Right?
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:That's the point.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:It's not like you have to wear a fancy hat or wear a fancy garb of clothes or wear rings that symbolizes, you know, or cross necklaces or anything like that.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:This is a covenant that's between you and God alone.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:Only God knows.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:Put it like this.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:And only you know.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:So between the two of you, you have this covenant.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:It's a private covenant between you and the creator of the universe.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:If you're a male child.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:And that's the point of it.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:You don't have to advertise it.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:You're not going to go out showing it to people.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:We know what I mean.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:All right.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:So here God's saying, this is a private covenant just between you and me and those after you.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:Just between you, me and them.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:It's private.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:He that's born in your house, he's bought with you.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:The money needs to be circumcised.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:My covenant shall be in your flesh as an everlasting covenant.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:Verse 14.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:The uncircumcised man, child, whose flesh of his foreskin is not circumcised, that soul shall be cut off from his people, for he has broken my coat.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:They don't want to take part in the circumcision.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:They got no covenant rights whatsoever.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:Here, verse 15.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:And God said to Abraham, as for Sarai, your wife, now, she's the one who came up with the plan.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:She's the one who came up with the plan that ended up as a compromise in Ishmael.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:He says, as for Sarai, your wife, she doesn't have a foreskin to get circumcised with.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:He says, you will no longer call her name Sarai.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:You will call her Sarah.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:That's what her name shall be from now on, which is Princess.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:So you have princes, right?
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:Prince is what you know, Kings come through their luck.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:Well, a princess is in the royal line, too.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:Amen.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:A princess is in the royal eye.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:That's where God established that with the women, through Sarai right there.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:Praise God.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:Verse 16.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:I will bless her.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:I'm gonna bless her, Abram.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:I'm gonna bless Sarai, who is now known as Sarah, as a princess.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:I'm gonna bless her as a princess.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:A kingly princess is who she is now.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:I mean, that's gotta be exciting.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:Hey, man.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:He says, so from this point forward, you're gonna say, sarah, here's a princess.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:Princess of the nations.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:You know, the mother of these nations that are.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:Oh, praise God.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:She's calling him.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:Hey, Abraham, father of many nations, time to come to dinner.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:Yes.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:Princess, mother of many nations, right?
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:Oh, praise God.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:Praise God.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:Praise God.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:Don't shut me down.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:I'm preaching.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:Good.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:I hope you're getting this.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:I'm praying that you're getting this here.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:We're going through this verse by verse.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:Verse 16.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:I will bless her.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:And here it comes as a sign of this covenant, if you remember.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:Walk before me and be upright.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:Be sincere as you're walking before me.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:He says, you do this, and you start by giving me a covenant sign.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:Circumcision.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:Changing your name.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:Changing her name.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:You do this, I'm gonna make my covenant with you.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:And I will bless her and give you a son also of her.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:Yes, I will bless her.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:And she shall be the mother of many nations.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:Kings of people shall be of her.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:Now, this is too much for Abraham says he fell on his face and laughed.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:Ah, God, That's a good one, man.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:You.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:You're.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:You need to go on the Jay Leto show there.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:God.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:Praise the Lord.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:I tell you what, you're so funny sometimes.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:God, I didn't think that was funny.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:He's being serious.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:He said in his heart, can a child be born to someone that's a hundred years old?
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:Come on, God, give me a break here.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:That's what he's telling God.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:He says, can a child.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:Can someone 100 years old father a child?
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:Sarah, she's 90 years old.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:She hadn't been pregnant yet.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:How's she gonna have a baby?
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:Verse 18.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:And Abram said, abraham said unto God, God, look, I appreciate the offer, and I know your intentions are good here, but why don't you just bless Ishmael?
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:Let him live before you forever.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:Words out of his mouth are haunting the Jewish people to this day.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:Verse 19.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:And God said, sarah, your wife will bear you a son indeed, and you shall call his name Isaac.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:Isaac means he laughed.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:He laughed.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:You're going to remember that.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:You laughed at what I just said.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:I will establish my covenant with him.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:For an everlasting covenant and with his descendants after him.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:Now, verse 20.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:As for Ishmael, I've heard what you said.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:I've heard what you requested.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:I have.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:Well, he says, behold, I have blessed him.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:In other words, God heard what Abram said.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:He said, okay, I will bless him.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:I will make him prosperous, I will make him fruitful, I will multiply him exceedingly.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:According to what you just said, 12 princes shall he beget, and I will make of him a great nation.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:But my covenant I will establish with Isaac, which Sarah shall bear unto you at this set time in the next year.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:And he left off talking with him, and God went up from Abraham.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:God left.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:He said, all right, you can.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:You want to laugh at what I'm saying here, Abraham?
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:I'm calling you Abraham.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:You want to laugh at what I'm saying here?
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:Tell you what, okay, you want me to bless Ishmael, I'll do it.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:I'll make of him a great nation also.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:It'll be a thorn in your side and his side and Isaac's side forever.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:But let me tell you something here through Isaac, I'm telling you right now, you'll call his name Isaac, because you laughed at what I've just promised you.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:So every time you call him, you're gonna remember you laughed at what I just promised.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:And I'll talk to you later.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:He's gone.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:Went up from Abraham.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:And we'll leave it right there till next time.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:Amen.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:Till then, tell me what you thought about today's episode.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau:Heavenly Father, in the name of Jesus, we just praise you for opening the Scriptures to us and speaking to us in plain language.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:Lord, we don't have to read Elizabethan English and go look up what all these words mean.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:Lord, just share with us by your holy spirit right now.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:And we just praise you for all that you do in Jesus name, Amen.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:And Amen until next time is Pastor.
Pastor Bob Thibodeau:By reminding you to be blessed in all that you do.
