Genesis 2 vs 16 - Genesis 3 vs 4

Pastor Bob Thibodeau delves into the significance of obedience to God as he explores Genesis chapters 2 and 3 in this enlightening Bible study. He emphasizes the first commandment given to Adam: to eat freely from all the trees in the Garden of Eden except for one, highlighting that this command was not a restriction but a protective measure.

As he discusses the creation of woman and the relationship between Adam and Eve, Pastor Bob illustrates the shared authority and partnership that exists within marriage.

The episode also begins to explain the encounter between Eve and the serpent, shedding light on the subtle temptations that lead to disobedience.

Through this verse-by-verse analysis, listeners are encouraged to understand the foundational principles of their faith and the importance of adhering to God's word.

Welcome to your 15 minute daily Bible walk.

Announcer:

A verse by verse devotional study through the Bible with Pastor Bob Thibodeau.

Announcer:

In this unique study, Pastor Bob takes you through the Bible just a few verses at a time.

Announcer:

From Genesis all the way through the book of the Revelation.

Announcer:

No preaching, just a simple Bible reading with examples and short explanations of the meaning behind the scripture scriptures.

Announcer:

Your 15 minute daily Bible walk is designed for those who are so busy it's hard for them to do a daily Bible study.

Announcer:

So Pastor Bob developed this program so you could study the Bible in just 15 minutes a day.

Announcer:

Now with today's Scripture study, here's Pastor Bob Thibodeau.

Pastor Bob:

God, we're so blessed.

Pastor Bob:

You're joining us today for today's Bible study.

Pastor Bob:

Amen.

Pastor Bob:

Now, yesterday in the last episode, we left off with Genesis chapter 2 and verse 15.

Pastor Bob:

We study where the Lord God, which is Yahweh Elohim.

Pastor Bob:

The Trinity, Right.

Pastor Bob:

The Lord God doesn't get any higher than that.

Pastor Bob:

Yahweh Elohim took the man, put them into the Garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.

Pastor Bob:

And when we studied, to dress it means to take care of it.

Pastor Bob:

To keep it is just like if I gave you something precious and said, keep this for me.

Pastor Bob:

That means you are charged with protecting it.

Pastor Bob:

And that's where we left off at yesterday.

Pastor Bob:

And the Lord God, chapter 2, verse 16 is.

Pastor Bob:

We're starting today.

Pastor Bob:

Yahweh Elohim commanded the man.

Pastor Bob:

So here's the commandment.

Pastor Bob:

Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat.

Pastor Bob:

But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, you shall not eat of that one.

Pastor Bob:

For in that day that you eat of it, you shall surely die.

Pastor Bob:

There is the first law.

Pastor Bob:

Obey God.

Pastor Bob:

That's all he had to do.

Pastor Bob:

Obey God.

Pastor Bob:

Was God keeping something from the man?

Pastor Bob:

No, he's protecting the man.

Pastor Bob:

He didn't need to know about the devil.

Pastor Bob:

He didn't need to know about all the havoc that had gone on prior to his creation.

Pastor Bob:

He didn't need to know that there would come a point in time than likely when God would explain all of this to him.

Pastor Bob:

But right now, he's got a job to do.

Pastor Bob:

Take care of the garden and keep it to protect it.

Pastor Bob:

That's all he had to do was protect it.

Pastor Bob:

And you can eat from anything you want.

Pastor Bob:

Except that one.

Pastor Bob:

That one's mine.

Pastor Bob:

That one is mine.

Pastor Bob:

You don't eat from that 1.

Pastor Bob:

Verse 18.

Pastor Bob:

And Yahweh Elohim said.

Pastor Bob:

Said, it's not right.

Pastor Bob:

It's not good that the man should be alone.

Pastor Bob:

So I'm going to make a help meet for him.

Pastor Bob:

A helper for him.

Pastor Bob:

Out of the ground, the Lord God formed every beast of the field, every fowl of the air, brought them to Adam to see what he would call them.

Pastor Bob:

This is Adam's first job.

Pastor Bob:

Name everything.

Pastor Bob:

Name the trees, name the plants, name the bugs.

Pastor Bob:

Why would you have bugs in the Garden of Eden, Pastor Bob?

Pastor Bob:

What are the birds going to eat?

Pastor Bob:

God provides for the birds, right?

Pastor Bob:

Anyway, he said, out of the ground, the Lord God Yahweh Elohim formed every beast of the field, every bird of the air, brought them to Adams, see what he would call them.

Pastor Bob:

And whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name of it.

Pastor Bob:

Remember, he's created in the image of God.

Pastor Bob:

In the image of Elohim, he has dominion.

Pastor Bob:

Whatever he says, that's the way it is.

Pastor Bob:

That's the way God designed us.

Pastor Bob:

Whatever you say, that's the way it is.

Pastor Bob:

That's what Jesus kept emphasizing over and over again.

Pastor Bob:

Whatsoever thing you shall say and believe in your heart, it shall come to pass, it shall be even as you say.

Pastor Bob:

Where did Jesus get that from?

Pastor Bob:

But Jesus also the second Adam, the first Adam, had the same power and authority.

Pastor Bob:

Whatsoever thing you say, Adam, that's the way it's going to be.

Pastor Bob:

And that's what we see here, verse 20.

Pastor Bob:

And Adam gave names to all the cattle, to the fowls of the air, to every beast of the field.

Pastor Bob:

But for Adam, there was not found a helpmeet for him, there was not found a partner for him.

Pastor Bob:

And Yahweh Elohim caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept.

Pastor Bob:

See that little colon there?

Pastor Bob:

In the King James Bible, the colon means so that.

Pastor Bob:

That's really what it means.

Pastor Bob:

So Adam slept so that God took one of his ribs, then closed up the flesh instead of thereof, and the rib which Yahweh Elohim had taken from the man, made he a woman, and brought her to the man.

Pastor Bob:

Now remember, whatsoever things Adam called the creation, that's what it was, right?

Pastor Bob:

Well, how did a woman become a woman?

Pastor Bob:

How did that name come?

Pastor Bob:

I heard this before I preached it myself.

Pastor Bob:

Eve was so perfect in her creation that when God presented Eve to him, he's like, oh, man.

Pastor Bob:

And that's why her name is now a woman.

Pastor Bob:

Amen.

Pastor Bob:

Don't shut me down.

Pastor Bob:

I'm preaching good already.

Pastor Bob:

Praise God.

Pastor Bob:

You know Pastor Bob's joking.

Pastor Bob:

Woman out of the womb of a man that she now has the womb of a man.

Pastor Bob:

She carries the womb of man.

Pastor Bob:

All right, so Adam said about Eve, she's now bone of my bones, flesh of my flesh.

Pastor Bob:

She shall be called woman because she was taken out of the man.

Pastor Bob:

Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother shall cleave to his wife.

Pastor Bob:

They shall be one flesh.

Pastor Bob:

And they're both naked.

Pastor Bob:

The man and his wife and were not ashamed by naked, meaning.

Pastor Bob:

They weren't wearing clothes.

Pastor Bob:

They were covered with the glory of God.

Pastor Bob:

The glory of God was their clothing.

Pastor Bob:

That was their covering.

Pastor Bob:

When we get to heaven, we're not going to be competing with.

Pastor Bob:

Well, you're wearing rags and I got my five thousand dollar Italian suit.

Pastor Bob:

No, none of that exists in heaven.

Pastor Bob:

We're going to be clothed with the glory.

Pastor Bob:

Amen.

Pastor Bob:

Remember, we studied last.

Pastor Bob:

I believe it was in this past episode that the glory is what we will be inheriting when we get to heaven.

Pastor Bob:

None of this stuff.

Pastor Bob:

The watch, the clothes, the glasses, whatever you want to wear.

Pastor Bob:

We're not going to need glasses because your eyesight is going to be perfect.

Pastor Bob:

Not just 20, 20.

Pastor Bob:

I'm talking about perfect.

Pastor Bob:

You're going to see past, present, future.

Pastor Bob:

Because in eternity, everything exists.

Pastor Bob:

I don't have time to get into that day.

Pastor Bob:

Let's get.

Pastor Bob:

Let's jump back in here now to chapter three, Genesis, chapter three.

Pastor Bob:

How much time we got left here?

Pastor Bob:

Let's see.

Pastor Bob:

Okay.

Pastor Bob:

Now, the serpent was more subtle than any beast of the field which Yahweh Elohim had created, had made.

Pastor Bob:

And the serpent said to the woman, notice she didn't go to Adam.

Pastor Bob:

He knows Adam has that authority.

Pastor Bob:

Adam has the authority.

Pastor Bob:

He has the responsibility.

Pastor Bob:

He has the duty to keep the garden.

Pastor Bob:

The woman wasn't there when God commanded Adam to say that.

Pastor Bob:

Now, because she's part of Adam, she has the same authority he does.

Pastor Bob:

She just didn't realize it.

Pastor Bob:

Here's an example.

Pastor Bob:

In real life, my wife, when we got married, she became Mrs.

Pastor Bob:

Robert Timono.

Pastor Bob:

She has the same authority as I do.

Pastor Bob:

We are partners in this.

Pastor Bob:

She can go into.

Pastor Bob:

Her name's on the bank accounts.

Pastor Bob:

Her name's on everything.

Pastor Bob:

The house, the car.

Pastor Bob:

She can go and sell the car, sell the house, the whole nine yards.

Pastor Bob:

Pastor Bob, that's.

Pastor Bob:

That's pretty dangerous there, don't you.

Pastor Bob:

But you know, I mean, what happens if you get divorced?

Pastor Bob:

Well, after 47 years, I don't think it's gonna happen.

Pastor Bob:

Praise God.

Pastor Bob:

Yeah.

Pastor Bob:

Amen.

Pastor Bob:

Hallelujah.

Pastor Bob:

We just celebrated our 47th anniversary being together.

Pastor Bob:

Praise the Lord.

Pastor Bob:

But anyway, the point I'm trying to make is when you're married, your wife has the authority of your.

Pastor Bob:

When she is known, she takes my last name, Thibodeau.

Pastor Bob:

So she has her first name that was given to her at birth and my last name on every legal document.

Pastor Bob:

That's how she signs.

Pastor Bob:

She's part of me.

Pastor Bob:

Amen.

Pastor Bob:

And when we are addressed formally, it's Mr.

Pastor Bob:

And Mrs.

Pastor Bob:

Robert Thibodeau.

Pastor Bob:

This is same way with Adam and Eve.

Pastor Bob:

So the serpent knew Adam had the authority.

Pastor Bob:

He also knew she probably didn't understand the authority that God had given.

Pastor Bob:

She wasn't there when he said, this is a worm.

Pastor Bob:

And God said, it is now a worm.

Pastor Bob:

From this point forward, it's a worm.

Pastor Bob:

She hadn't seen any of that.

Pastor Bob:

So he's trying to work on her.

Pastor Bob:

And he said to the woman, the snake, the serpent said to the woman, hey, I know King James says, yea, has God said, you shall not eat of every tree in the garden.

Pastor Bob:

And Pastor Bob parlance and be like, hey, didn't God say, you can eat from every tree here in the garden?

Pastor Bob:

And the woman answered, the Spirit said, we can eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden, but of the fruit of the tree which is in the middle of the garden, God has said, Yahweh has said, I'm sorry, Elohim.

Pastor Bob:

Elohim has said we should not eat of it nor touch it, lest we die.

Pastor Bob:

And the serpent said to the Lord, ha, ha ha.

Pastor Bob:

Yeah, you're not gonna die.

Pastor Bob:

You're not gonna die if you touch it.

Pastor Bob:

Verse 5.

Pastor Bob:

For Elohim knows that in the day you eat from that tree, your eyes will be opened and you shall be as gods.

Pastor Bob:

Little G, not the big G, not Elohim, God.

Pastor Bob:

But you'll be as other gods like he is.

Pastor Bob:

Do you see that little G right there?

Pastor Bob:

He'll be like us.

Pastor Bob:

You'll know good and evil.

Pastor Bob:

We know what good and evil is.

Pastor Bob:

How come you don't know?

Pastor Bob:

Why don't you know what good and evil is?

Pastor Bob:

We know what good and evil is.

Pastor Bob:

See how he's working on her?

Pastor Bob:

She's like, huh, wow.

Pastor Bob:

God's holy, holding out on us.

Pastor Bob:

And that's where the fall happened.

Pastor Bob:

We'll take it up there next time.

Pastor Bob:

Amen.

Pastor Bob:

Praise the Lord.

About the Podcast

15 Minute Daily Bible Walk
Verse by Verse Through The Bible
This has been a project I have been contemplating for a long time.

Join me in walking through the Bible on our personal Bible study - one verse at at time. There is no "preaching" here. Just simple scripture reading with brief explanations and examples of what the scripture mean.

I was inspired to do this project based upon the program "Through The Bible" with Dr. Jay Veron McGee (who is passed on to be with the Lord for several years now). When I first started to study the Bible, his radio program helped me immensely. It took Dr. McGee 5 years to do a complete Bible Study.

I do not know how long it will take us. But you can start listening at anytime. My goal is to create a new episode each and every day (365 days per year).

Of course, "sometimes" life will get in the way (for many reasons). But I will pick it right back up where we left off (and try to catch up the days that were missed - to help keep us on track).

As I continue to add more episodes, you can join us at the most recent program or start at the beginning. Each episode is labeled as to the scriptures we are going to discuss.

I am so blessed you are here and I pray you will get a huge blessing as we join together in a "15 Minute Daily Bible Walk!" Amen!

About your host

Profile picture for Robert Thibodeau

Robert Thibodeau

I am a 12 year Army veteran as both enlisted and as a commissioned Cavalry Officer.
I am now a retired law enforcement supervisor...

I had my own business for seven years before I entered law enforcement.

As a cop, I was injured on the job on May 12, 2007 and after several surgeries over a couple of years, forced to retire in 2011.

As I was looking down the road to “what am I going to do next?” I started what is now known as a podcast (I had no clue at the time).

Within six months of starting (what I called) “My online radio program” I was offered an opportunity to be on nationwide AM radio. I learned A LOT in one year of doing that!

I then started the online Christian radio platform "Evangelism Radio" in the fall of 2010. It has had listeners in 160+ nations and all 50 states. We host 50+ Christian broadcasters on a weekly basis. We have been operating 24/7 for almost 14 years now. We have been rated #1 in the world by Shoutcast. com on several occasions in our genre. We recently transferred ownership of Evangelism Radio to another ministry so I could concentrate full time on podcasting, preaching and writing.

In 2018, I started the Kingdom Cross Roads Podcast to conduct interviews with Christian influencers from all walks of life and to play their interviews on the radio station. (The KCR Podcast has its own time slot on Evangelism Radio)!
We now have over 1600 episodes and almost 1100 interviews (in just over 6 years).

Looking out at the future of online Christian media, I noticed there was no viable platforms that catered only to the Christian podcast market.

In 2023, we launched a networking platform called, "FaithCasters" which connects "Great Christian podcasters with Great Christian Guests!" This helps to promote the work you do through podcast interviews! Check it out at https://FaithCaster.org

We recently launched "FaithCaster Academy" which serves as a training hub for ALL of our trainings (podcast training / speaker training / interview training, etc.). Members receive access to ALL of our training programs for one low, monthly membership fee. Members also receive FREE access to ALL of the LIVE trainings I conduct (1 or 2 per month) - while non-members have to pay to access the live trainings.

Between my podcast training program, conducting podcast interviews, appearing on other podcasts as guests, speaking at conferences (in person and virtually) and the podcast networking platform, I guess you could say “I’m all in” when it comes to podcasting and online media!

My total focus is to do all we can to assist you to “Get The Word Out” about your mission, services, products, ministry, books, business, etc.
