We've been studying about Abram and.

And how he, you know, how he had Sarah lie for him so they wouldn't kill him and take her as his wife.

And.

But that ended up in a blessing.

And he understood now that Pharaoh had blessed him.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:01:14

And Pharaoh understood that, you know, Sarah was actually his wife.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:01:19

But instead of taking revenge on him, he decided just to send them out.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:01:24

Send them out.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:01:24

He's.

Pharaoh must have seen the blessing on him.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:01:27

And he knew he wasn't supposed to do anything bad because, remember, God spoke to Pharaoh, said, don't do anything to Abram.

Now.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:01:33

Well, that takes us now to Genesis, chapter 13.

We'll begin in verse number one.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:01:39

And Abram went out, out of Egypt, he and his wife and all that he had and Lot with him into the south.

And Abram was very rich in cattle and silver and gold.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:01:53

Now, he went on his journeys from south to Bethel under the place where his tent had been back at the beginning between Bethel and Hannah, under the place of the altar which he had made there at the first.

And there Abram called on the name of the Lord.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:02:13

So he went back to where the first.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:02:17

Where the Lord first appeared to him and talked with him.

He said, you know, okay, I got out of here.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:02:25

Let me go back, see what God wants me to do.

That's basically what.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:02:28

What we're seeing here.

And Lot also, which went with Abram, had flocks and herds and tents.

You know, See, Abraham knew something was wrong, and so he just went back to where God was, where he knew God was, where he knew God would meet with him because he wanted to know what to do next.

All right, now, there's no doubt that when Abram and Lot came back, word got around.

Hey, Abram, Tara's son.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:03:01

Yeah.

This guy is rich now.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:03:04

I mean, he is blessed.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:03:06

This guy has cattle and silver and gold.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:03:09

The land's so great.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:03:11

I mean, his possessions are so great, the land.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:03:13

I mean, there's this dude, you know, if.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:03:17

If.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:03:17

Now I'm probably dating myself here.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:03:19

Some of you watching this probably don't know what I'm talking about.

This dude is like Ben Cartwright in the Ponderosa, okay?

Something like that.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:03:26

Well, word trickled back up more than likely to Shem.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:03:33

And Shem hears about one of his descendants that is super blessed.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:03:39

He went into Egypt with nothing and came out with the possessions of Egypt.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:03:44

And Shem is registering all this.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:03:47

Just hold that as your thought, all right?

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:03:49

Because we're going to get there.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:03:51

So let's go now to verse number five.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:03:53

Lot also, which went with Abram.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:03:55

Had flocks, herds and tents.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:03:56

The land was not able to bear them.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:03:58

For they might dwell together.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:04:00

For their substance was great.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:04:01

So that they could not dwell together.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:04:03

That's how much they had.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:04:05

And there was a strife between the herdmen of Abram's cattle.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:04:08

And the herdmen of Lot's cattle.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:04:10

And the Canaanite and the Pezarite dwelled then in the land.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:04:14

And Abram said to Lot, let there be no strife, I pray thee.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:04:17

Between you and me.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:04:19

Between my herdmen and your herdmen.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:04:20

For we're brother in here.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:04:21

We're family.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:04:22

We don't need to be arguing over stuff, all right?

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:04:24

You and I are family.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:04:27

There's a way to work this out.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:04:28

He said, isn't the whole land before us?

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:04:32

Just separate yourself.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:04:33

I pray you, separate yourself from me.

If you want to go to the left, I'll take the right.

If you want to go to the right, I'll take the left.

It doesn't matter to me.

Whatever way you want to go, I'll go to the other way.

And he said, you just pick which way you want to go.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:04:48

See, Abram was Jenny.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:04:50

He was blessing a lot.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:04:51

He could have just said, now look, we're getting too big for each other.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:04:55

And here's what we're going to do.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:04:57

I'm going to go down here, or I'm gonna stay here, and you go over there.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:05:01

He could have directed Lot, and Lot would have had to obey.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:05:04

But then there would have been strife again, you know.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:05:07

Well, you chose the best part for you and all that.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:05:09

So Abram flipped the table.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:05:11

He said, you pick which way you want to go.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:05:14

If you want to go left, I'll go right.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:05:15

You want to go right, I'll go left.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:05:17

Just pick.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:05:18

So Lot surveying the situation here.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:05:22

He says, you know, he chose him all the plain of Jordan.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:05:26

Verse 11, Genesis 13, verse 11.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:05:28

Lot chose him all the plain of Jordan.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:05:32

So Lot journeyed east.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:05:34

And they separated themselves one from the other.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:05:37

Verse 12.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:05:38

Abram dwelled in the land of Canaan.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:05:39

Lot dwelled in the cities of the plain.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:05:42

And he pitched his tent towards Sodom.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:05:47

And hold that thought.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:05:50

But the men of Sodom were wicked sinners.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:05:53

But before the Lord exceedingly.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:05:56

And the Lord said to Abram, after Lot separated himself from him, lift up.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:06:01

Now your eyes.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:06:02

Look from the place where you are.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:06:04

Northward, southward, eastward and westward.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:06:07

All the land which you see to you, I will give it.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:06:11

And I will give it to your seed, your descendants forever.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:06:16

And I will make your descendants as the dust of the earth, so that if any man could number the dust of the earth, then so shall your seed be numbered.

Arise.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:06:28

Walk through the whole land.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:06:30

Walk through the length of it and the breadth of it.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:06:34

Go all over this place.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:06:36

I'm gonna give it to you.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:06:37

So you need to survey.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:06:39

You need to see what belongs to you.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:06:41

Then Abram removed his tent and came and dwelt in the plain of Mamre.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:06:46

Mamre is translated as fatness, the fatness of the land, the blessing of the land, the fruit of the land.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:06:54

All of it was called Mamre.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:06:57

And that's where Abram went, which is in Hebron.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:07:01

And he built there another altar unto the Lord.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:07:05

All right, so notice here the Lord waited until Abram decided to finally obey God.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:07:13

From the first time, Remember that number one was.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:07:19

He said, I'm going to give you all this land.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:07:21

I'm going to give it to you and your descendants forever.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:07:23

Separate yourself from the.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:07:24

From your father and your father's other.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:07:26

Well, let's go back and look at that.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:07:29

Praise the Lord.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:07:33

And let me go back here and find it.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:07:38

Praise the Lord.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:07:39

Because it's important to understand that.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:07:45

Here you go.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:07:46

Verse 12, chapter 12, verse 1.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:07:48

Now the Lord has said to Abram, get out of your country and from your family, your kindred, from your father's house to the land that I will show you.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:07:56

That was the first promise.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:07:58

Second one.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:07:58

I'll make you a great nation.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:08:00

I'll bless you, make your name great.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:08:01

You shall be a blessing.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:08:02

You'll bless them that bless you.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:08:04

You'll curse him that curses you.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:08:06

In you, all the families of the earth shall be blessed.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:08:09

So Abram packed up and left, as the Lord has spoken to him.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:08:13

And Lot went with him.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:08:16

We talked about this before.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:08:17

When we talked, we went over this scripture.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:08:19

When he left Haran, he did everything except took Lot with him.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:08:26

He didn't separate himself from his family at all.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:08:29

Right here, God tells him to do the same exact thing, right?

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:08:36

He said, after Lot had separated him.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:08:40

In chapter 13, verse 14, the Lord said to Abram, after Lot had separated from him, he said, finally, you did what I told you to do.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:08:51

Now look at it right there in verse 14.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:08:54

Now lift up your eyes.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:08:56

Look from the place where you are now.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:08:58

Look northward, southward, eastward and westward.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:09:02

For the land which you see, to you I will give it.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:09:04

And to Your seed, your descendants forever.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:09:08

I'll make your seed as the dust of the earth.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:09:11

Remember, that was the first promise.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:09:13

I'll bless you.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:09:13

I'll make a great nation.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:09:15

All the nations of the earth we bless.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:09:16

I'll give you descendants that you could number for the sand and the stars and all that he said.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:09:23

So here's the promises of God.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:09:25

He's reiterating it to Abram again.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:09:27

That's what I want you to understand.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:09:29

When God tells you to do something, he expects it to be done the way he said to do it.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:09:35

You can't just pick how you want to do it.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:09:37

You know, if God says, I want you to give thousand dollars to that ministry right there, and when you do this, I'm going to open a door for you.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:09:46

You're going to get promotions at work.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:09:47

You're going to get this, that, and the other thing.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:09:49

You know, you'll have to pack up and move because you're going to be running this, you know, an organization that's away from here and away from all your.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:09:59

I give him a hundred bucks, God.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:10:01

That's good enough.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:10:03

So your blessing has now went from a hundred percent to 10%.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:10:09

Do you see what I'm saying?

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:10:10

I want you to understand that when God gives you specific instructions, he expects the instructions to be fulfilled specifically, Amen.

We have a very specific God.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:10:22

We don't have a general God, but, well, you know, I'll just bless you.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:10:29

That's, you know, what would you do if you, you had your kids and you told them, don't worry about it, Papa will bless you.

What does that mean?

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:10:39

Well, you tell them, you know, don't worry about this, you know, I'll give you the down payment for the house.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:10:43

I'll make sure that you got furniture, you know, you need a car.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:10:46

I'll help you with a car.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:10:48

When you get specific like that.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:10:50

Because all you have to do is pack up and move here and I'll take care of the rest.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:10:54

Now, do you trust your grandfather?

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:10:57

Do you trust him enough to believe what he says?

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:11:01

If you say, papa, I don't believe that, well, then you're missing out here.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:11:10

We see God told Abram what to do and he didn't do it.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:11:15

It almost cost him his life.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:11:17

It almost cost him Sarai.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:11:20

God had to move on Pharaoh.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:11:22

We've seen that back in chapter 12.

And now in chapter 13.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:11:26

Lot finally decides, you know what?

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:11:28

Maybe I need to go back where God told me what to do.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:11:31

And that's what he did.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:11:33

A lot went with him, he just can't.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:11:37

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:11:37

I can't get away from that.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:11:39

He continues to keep Lot with him, but finally it got to the point where he said, all right, Lots, look, you need to leave.

We're getting.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:11:49

We're too big.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:11:50

Your people are fighting with my people.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:11:52

We don't need that.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:11:52

We're family here.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:11:54

Pick which way you want to go.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:11:56

I'll go the other way.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:11:57

We gotta separate ourselves.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:11:58

We're getting too big for this area.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:11:59

There's not enough room here for both of us.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:12:01

Lot chose.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:12:02

He was a fine.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:12:03

Then he went back the other way, right?

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:12:05

And then we've seen God meeting to him, telling him, again.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:12:10

I say that again.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:12:12

Number one, the land which you see, I'll give it to you forever.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:12:15

Number two, I'll make your descendants as a dust of the earth.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:12:18

If anyone could number the dust, the earth, that's how many your seed will be numbered, Right?

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:12:23

Then he tells him, now get up and walk through this land.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:12:26

The length of it, the breadth of it.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:12:28

Look at all of it, because it all belongs to you, boy.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:12:32

And Abram removed his tent, came and dwelt in Mamre, which is called Fatness, the land of fatness.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:12:38

Praise God.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:12:39

And we see where Lot, he looked over there and, oh, man, those cities over there.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:12:48

It'd be like saying, let's go to Las Vegas.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:12:51

We're gonna move to Las Vegas, the city of sin.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:12:54

Here's what.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:12:55

That's what Lot's looking at.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:12:56

A lot of land around Las Vegas, a lot of land around Sodom, Gomorrah.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:13:02

That's enough for us to live on there.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:13:04

And we got the city right over here where all the fun takes place.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:13:07

We go over there.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:13:08

Yeah, we can hang out in the city.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:13:11

That's what he did.

Pastor Bob Thibodeau: 00:13:12
